Psalm 38:9

Lord, all my desire is before thee; and my groaning is not hid from thee.

The groaning we experience is the desire we have to be with God.  This ties into the first half of this verse.  God is aware of all our desires and wants: wants of having a closer relationship with Him and a desire of having others know Him.  Psalm 42:1 say’s it perfectly, “As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God.”  When God begins to draw a person to Himself a deep understanding of who God is, who we are and our relationship to Him before salvation becomes clearer.  This deep understanding causes us to cry out to God for mercy and our desire is to walk close with the Lord.  We begin to view this sinful world through teary eyes, knowing that mankind rejects God’s glorious salvation which is in Jesus Christ.  And we know that our loved one’s too have rejected our Lord Jesus Christ.  But mercifully God does not cast us off, in His Supreme Divine Wisdom our Merciful God has chosen a people for Himself.  His desire ultimately prevails and by His very nature God is altogether righteous and just in all His actions, so we can know for sure that if God decides to save someone or if He decides to leave them in their sin then it is in accord with His sovereign Wisdom.
