Psalm
35:24
“Judge
me, O LORD my God, according to thy righteousness; and let them not rejoice
over me.”
Do we ask the Lord to judge us? Is this really what any one of us would have God do to us? Just think about it, if God were to judge any one of us then there would be no one who would be able to stand faultless before the judgment throne of God. But when we look at this verse carefully we realize that this is a Messianic Psalm, that is, it speaks of the Messiah. This verse is Messianic in nature, it speaks of Christ who would be judged for the sins of all those whom God the Father had given to Christ, “I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which thou hast given me; for they are thine.” John 17:9. We also read about the Father giving all those who would be saved to Christ in John 6:39 “And this is the Father’s will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day.” This verse is a prayer of Christ in which He is asking God to judge Him (Christ) in accordance with God’s righteousness. Christ came to this earth to do the Father’s will and this will was to make full satisfaction for the sin of His people. God would have it no other way, God could have it no other way. The punishment for sins is an eternity in hell so this is exactly what Christ endured. Now, who are they that would rejoice over Christ? They are the enemies of Christ, they are those who would not have Christ reign over them, they are a representation of the unsaved. These people would rather have Christ not come out from under the righteous judgment of God. But wonderfully this is not possible, Christ could not be held by death “Whom God hath raised up, having loosed the pains of death: because it was not possible that he should be holden of it.” Acts 2:24
